The Dorset Pathology Hub

The Dorset Pathology Hub at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital is the new pathology facility that will be serving the whole South East of England. Thanks to the close collaboration with stakeholders, consultants and specialist equipment providers, the facility part of the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, is one of the most advanced pathology hubs in the UK.

The new hub is located in a new build, the project developed on a greenfield site, in a two-storey building, designed to better accommodate all the laboratories, ancillary spaces and offices for the administration staff. The project includes an outbuilding providing supporting storage. The facility assembles all the pathology departments under one roof, including molecular, histopathology and haematology. The design of this BREEAM Excellent building has been developed with the end users and the façade is divided in hexagons, representative of the molecular geometry. The metallic finish was chosen in collaboration with the stakeholders and the local authorities to ensure the building is worthy of being the future gateway building to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
