Client:  Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

Project Value:  £1.5m

Main Contractor:  Cuffe PLC

‘Hot’ patients who have been injected with radioactive materials are treated in the area which as a result requires a heavily shielded environment. The project required careful planning to install large quantities of steelwork to support the new equipment and shielding.

The PET-CT scanner room incorporated a bespoke ‘mood’ lighting system which allows the patient to select the colour of the lighting in the room which is supported by audio to enhance the patient’s experience.  Careful design consideration of workflows and patient experience has resulted in a unit which is modern and uplifting

Project Value:  £5.0m

Main Contractor:  Peak Contractors Ltd

The scheme included the provision of three CT’s, three digital x-ray rooms, a Fluoroscopy room, a 1.5T MRI and seven Ultrasound rooms in addition to all the associated patient, staff, reporting and clinical accommodation.

Dedicated seminar, conferencing and reporting facilities were provided as part of the scheme.  Innovative bespoke design of these areas with features such as ‘acoustic pods’ in the reporting, administration & clerical areas have been complemented on by Users.

The project was demanding not only in term of design complexity but also execution which required carefully planned phasing to ensure that the existing clinical service was maintained throughout construction period.

Client: Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust

Project Value: 1.5 million

Main contractor: Lodge Southern

This project was a phased equipment replacement for the Gamma Camera (PET CT) suites. During Phase 1 an existing scanner, control and cannulation room were completely refurbished with additional structural steelwork introduced to support the weight of the latest multi operation Siemens scanner. Phase 2 works included an enabling package, a new scanner, control and technical rooms, with associated hot / cold waiting areas and accessible Wc. Operational services within the department were maintained throughout.

MRI

Client: Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust

Project Value: 1.1 million

Main contractor: Logan Construction

A state of the art facility within the confines of an existing building and the constraints of adjacent department footprints and thoroughfares.

Coordination of the MRI, faraday cage, building services, structure and access for the MRI through the roof with the specialist suppliers, Siemens and the engineers was critical. The design enabled phasing of the works to reduce disruption to adjacent live departments as far as possible. The estates team also took the opportunity to insulate the whole outpatients block roof to new build standards.  The client, including both the estates and clinical users, are delighted with the results.

Client:  Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust

Project Value:  £2.0m

Main Contractor:  Cuffe Plc

A phased refurbishment of the diagnostic imaging department with the installation of twin MRI and CT scanning facilities. All works have been carried out whilst the department has remained fully operational with complex phasing of construction to ensure the maintenance of imaging services.

Extensive structural works have been necessary to strengthen the existing floors and remove a number of loadbearing internal walls.

The new facility provides the hospital with the latest imaging technology and increased diagnostic capacity. The new MRI suite will support a wide range of leading edge research work and the CT scanning suite is suitable for carrying out interventional work on patients.
