Operating Theatres

Hybrid Theatre

Client:  Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust

Project Value: £3million`

Main Contractor:  Logan Construction Ltd

Ansell and Bailey have now added to their hybrid portfolio with a new large Hybrid Theatre at the Royal Brompton. It is a state of the art 80m2 operating theatre with the C-Arm imaging capability of a Cath Lab. This enables a patient to have a greater number procedures in the same session, and being less invasive, less time is spent in recovery and multiple hospital visits are avoided.

The works were carried out on a tight, live site where positive and proactive relationships between the client, design team and contractor were critical to ensuring successful delivery of the challenging project. The end users were delighted with the final product.

Ravenscourt Park Hospital

Client:  Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust

Project Value: £8million`

Main Contractor:  Mansell Construction Services Ltd

Ravenscourt Park Hospital was originally built as The Royal Masonic Hospital and is listed as a fine example of 1930’s modern architecture.

The brief was to refurbish the accommodation to provide 106 beds, 6 “ultra clean” operating theatres and a physiotherapy department within the confines of the existing structure.

In 2008 Ansell & Bailey secured planning permission for a major redevelopment of the site as a specialised private care unit.  The scheme included a radiotherapy department below the garden and reflecting pool as well as upgrading and remodelling the existing accommodation.

Theatres and Recovery

Client:  Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust

Project Value:  £3m

Main Contractor:  Logan Construction Ltd

Theatre admissions (7 consulting rooms), 2 new theatres  (1 major trauma) and a 17 bay recovery suite were completed in 2011 for St Mary’s hospital. The refurbishment was complex in terms of phasing as the existing adjacent theatres had to maintain operations at all times.

We have received fantastic feedback from the estates and clinical users who are delighted with the project.

Client:  Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust

Project Value:  £8.5m

Main Contractor:  Cuffe Plc

The project developed in the form of an extension for two new theatres suite on the same level as the existing suite with a floor above accommodating offices, rest room and welfare facilities.

Our insight, as a practice, to the understanding of the theatres from previous projects and working closely with the users enabled us to double the number of theatres from four to eight in the department but only increasing the overall area by just over a third.
